Sternberg gets Entangled

REVIEWED BY DIANE MONROE

Donna  Sternberg and Dancers’ 25th  Anniversary Performance on May 1st  at the Assistance League Playhouse in Hollywood, appealed to scientists as well as her loyal audience.  Quantum Entanglement - Final Version was a collaboration with Michael Masucci, a videologist of considerable talent who describes himself as a digital artist in a panel discussion preceding the dance concert. Todd Brun, K.C. Cole, Maisha Hazzard and Donna Sternberg herself completed the panel addressing science, philosophy, spirituality, and the art of movement.

Quantum is described as "the indivisible unit in which wavers may be absorbed or emitted."  Entanglement is a confused mass of twisted elements.  The two concepts made for an interesting evening of dance, although Sternberg’s choreography was crystal clear and certainly not in the least confused.  She brought a wonderful emotional element to some of the nine sections of the full-length program.  There were moments of separation, togetherness, moments of cute interaction, and moments of romantic interaction as well.

Cassandra Richards was given credit for co-choreographing her solo.  The company consisted of her and three other females and a male dancer.  The costumes were by Kiyomi Hara.  The digital artists were Michael Masucci and Kate Johnson.  The music was very eclectic, including some voices, percussion music, and contemporary sounds mixed in with classical selections of Bach and Albinoni.

Donna Sternberg's perspective encompasses the range of emotion while maintaining a cutting edge perceptible in the choreography and choice of music which, when combined with the projections on the back wall, tied in the whole concept really well.  All of the parts of Quantum Entanglement worked effectively to formulate an evening of enjoyable science and dance.
